TEARAWAY
rock group Buffalo are in trouble again - this time with their recording
company, Phonogram. The group, who plan to call their next album Songs
for Frustrated Housewives, have been asked by Phonogram to "cool it".
The record company has received hundreds of letters and phone calls protesting
about the name and album cover of their latest pressing, Buffalo Only
Want You For Your Body. The album depicts a semi-naked woman being stretched
on a rack with blood dripping from her mouth. Their previous album, Volcanic
Rock, was even more explicit. It showed a male genital organ.

TELE-DISC
can reveal that Phonogram have confronted the group's manager and asked
that sexual conotations be played down on future covers. But Buffalo
manager Sebastian Chase told TELE-DISC he was upset by suggestions that
the group take orders from anyone. "The boys are artists and artists
express themselves in the best way they can." he said. "We'll continue
to design lurid album covers if we want to." he said. Public Relations
officer for Phonogram, Di Edwards, said the company was cocerned with
the number of complaints from parents and other people, including record
retailers. "Some have been very upset. Most retailers stock Buffalo's
albums in brown paper bags. "We have simply asked them to tame their
next and subsequent covers down a bit."

Buffalo in record trouble
DAILY TELEGRAPH, Friday,
July 4, 1975
Relations
are a little strained between the top rock group, Buffalo, and their recording
company, Phonogram. Phonogram's management has told Buffalo's leader,
Dave Tice, that the company will refuse to release any more of the group's
albums unless their record covers are toned down.

3-day orgy
Truth, Saturday,
November15, 1975
A
leading
rock group, Buffalo, has been banned from a holiday flat complex after
a three-day orgy. Mr Mike Spartels, proprietor of the Freeway Gardens,
in Lennon Street, Parkville, has threatened to bill the rock band for
the damage it caused. Buffalo's manager, Sebastian Chase said: "We had
a bit of a party. It lasted about three days and nights, with breaks for
the gigs the lads had to play at. "The damage wasn't that bad. Bass player
Peter Wells and drummer Jimmy (The Greek) Economou just refurnished the
place a bit. "The night before we left, we were all pretty drunk." Now
in Perth, Buffalo is the centre of another controversey. During an interview
on ABC radio, members of the band said they wanted to stage a nude concert
at a Perth club. Chase said: "When we made our announcement on the ABC,
the station was flooded with complaints from parents and Catholics."

Buffalo & Bega
RAM No 24 January 30, 1976
I'm writing to let everyone know what Buffalo
did to us the other night in Bega town. Everyone showed for their concert
exept the bloody group. Everyone was so pissed off. Why should we be deprived
of good music just because we live a fair distance from Sydney. I can
guarantee you'll have a good audience because the Bega kids are real dudes
and they'll yell their insides out for anything, let alone a good rock
and roll band. We usually get a good performer once a month - our last
one was Jeff St.John who was great. Everyone had the chance to enjoy him
cause he showed. Shitted Off, Bega (Far South Coast) RAM spoke to Dave
Tice, lead singer Buffalo, about your letter and here is his personal
reply: Dear S.O., As you say, Bega is a fair distance from Sydney. However
this is neither new or unusual for us, as the majority of our gigs are
a fair distance from Sydney, we even travel to Perth sometimes. Usually
things are planned to allow us enough time to cover the distances involved.
Unfortunately, in this instance, someone miscalculated mileages. The night
before we were supposed to play in Bega, we played a gig in Taree (which
is some 600 miles north of Bega), and we found after setting out that
there was no way we could make it in time. We hope you accept our apologies
along with a promise that we'll do all in our power to ensure a concert
in Bega in the near future. One which we'll make sure we get to.
Apologies
once again,
Dave
Tice, on behalf of Buffalo
