Dave Tice started out playing in local Brisbane & Sydney bands in the mid 60's. His musical talent and hard work have carried him through several decades. His recording career has encompassed several genres, from the legendary hard rocking seventies band Buffalo to the R & B sounds of the UK based Bishops and more recently the Blues based rock of the Head Hunters, the Dave Tice Band, the Bar Kings and 'Tice and Evans'. |

TICEYS' NEW YEAR ADDRESS
SHIT, 2007 already, seems like only yesterday we had the Olympic Games here. But seriously the last couple of years have flown by; Mark and I have been as busy as Beirut brickies. We've just completed our eighth year resident at the Bridge hotel, Friday evenings 6 - 9pm, in fact we're now into year nine. Also we've just racked up a full year resident at the Sandringham hotel, Newtown, on Saturday afternoons 4 - 7pm too. The duo is going from strength to strength and we've done our fair share of travelling, building strong followings in Newcastle and Wollongong and making numerous forays up and down the NSW coast.
We're
hoping to have the chance to do some more recording this year too, we're
about due for a proper studio album, and will be working on that as we go
along.
RIP Pete.
I look
forward to seeing you all at a "Tice & Evans" gig or maybe a band show
throughout the year, all the best for '07, keep rocking.

Rumour has it there may be more rare unearthed Buffalo material waiting to see the light of day. We'll just have to wait & see.... Info at http://www.aztecmusic.net

PETE WELLS RIP
Daves eulogy for Peter
We’re here today to say our goodbyes to Pete Wells a loved and respected friend, someone who in one way or another has touched our lives and had a part in shaping who we are. The fact is that Pop has influenced and inspired a great many people, we all know about his immense contribution to Australian music, but just as important is the example of how he chose to live his life. And make no mistake, Pete lived how he chose to live, he wasn’t interested in playing someone else’s game.
He’s been called the “Rock and Roll Outlaw” and there’s no denying he was that, but there was a lot more than that to Pete, and those of us who knew him well can attest to his incisive wit and genuine humanity.
He was a loyal friend who cared deeply about the people around him and was always ready with a word of good advice or encouragement when it was needed. His insights into the workings of the music business were profound and he passed on this knowledge to anyone who took the time to listen.
Pete and I met in Brisbane in about 1966 when we formed our first band, we were both just teenagers and pretty green, but already Pete had a good working knowledge of what it took to make a great Rock and Roll band. We did our time playing around Queensland and finally decided we’d have a go in the big smoke, so off we went to Sydney where we spent a lot of time dossing around the cross and putting together Buffalo. During all this time Pete was playing Bass, which he did very well indeed. As we all know he found his true vocation when he took up Slide Guitar and formed “Rose Tattoo”, the rest is history; he’s regarded world-wide as a unique treasure.
Pete was a generous man who never forgot his friends. I remember when I turned 50 a taxi-driver appeared at my front door and handed me a guitar case, when I took it inside and opened it up there was a shiny, new red Bo-Diddley guitar inside with the message “happy 50th from Pete”, so I rang him to say thanks and he said “no worries mate I thought it was time you smartened up your image”.
If we can trace a man’s journey through this life by the tracks he leaves behind then Pete’s left some pretty large tracks. He wasn’t one to submit easily and fought the good fight right up to the end. We won’t see his like again, but we can take comfort in knowing he was our’s for a while.
So long Pete, we’ll miss you.

COUNT BISHOPS REUNION What an incredible time it was for Bishops fans who attended the 100 Club gig on Oxford street in London on 23rd Sept. The club was packed with fans who came from as far away as Australia, Japan, Sweden, France & the U.S. We were treated to a great show, the Bishops giving it their all. To quote veteran journalist & long time Bishops supporter Charles Shaar Murray "the Bishops are sounding as good as they ever did". Who would have thought it was 25 years down the road since they last played! I personally would like to thank the band, Johnny, Paul, Pat, Dave & especially Roger Armstrong of Ace Records for making it happen. Thanks also to Dave (the enforcer) & Herve Colombet for sharing the experience. There was some filming going on at the Ace records private party where the Bishops played the night before, so let us pray it sees the light.
DVDDDVD IS DONE OK, IT'S HERE! The Headhunters Live at the Bridge is now available. email me for details
While we're on the subject of The Head Hunters, you would be well advised to keep an eye on Paul Burtons' events page for gigs near you for The Shuffle Kings & Jim Conway's Big Wheel. Paul of course plays & has recorded with both these great bands as well as now doing an occasional duo with Dave. http://www.theshuffle.com.au/events.htm
ASome More History Made At The Bridge
Friday the 5th of
November was another historical night at the Bridge Hotel. The Dave Tice
Band (Dave, Mark Evans, Mike Gubb & Rob Grosser) played a couple of sets
which included some of Daves' solo material from "Lay Down With Dogs"
& some Headhunters numbers. What made the night extra special however
was when local Sydney axeman & huge Buffalo fan Steve Lorkin got onstage
to play a few Buffalo numbers & wow didn't they sound great! Mr. Tice
was in fine voice & Lorko nailed the guitar parts, with the rest of the
band grooving along. That coupled with a great mix by sound engineer
Grahame Harrison made it an audible feast. Thanks for that blast gents &
please let this happen again.
HEADHUNTERS cd The Headhunters cd "Outlaw Boogie" has been remastered & re-released. This is great news as the original run was very limited & was nearly impossible to obtain for many years. (Available from me, see email above ALBUM A TIME WARP Buffalo fans will be excited to know that on Jan. 13 'O2 Dave & original Buffalo guitarist John Baxter jammed at a rehearsal studio in Sydney. They were well accompanied by long time Buffalo fans Steve Lorkin & Murray Shepherd who are no strangers to the Sydney rock scene themselves. The hour long blow included many of the early Buffalo classics, Paranoid, Fade Away & a couple of tunes John is presently working on.
