Lay
Down with Dogs, Dave Tice (Independant)
The
Sunday Telegraph July 30, 2000
VETERAN
Australian blues and rock performer Dave Tice has finally released a solo
album. Some of the country's best players, from Mark Evans (ex AC/DC)
and Paul Burton (ex-Catfish)/ Headhunters) through to Mal Eastick, lend
their skills to this energetic collection. ***

Step
into any decent record store in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt or even Paris
and you'll find every album ever released by the only Australian band
ever to be signed to Polydor's boutique HR/HM label , Vertigo, Black Sabbath's
label - Buffalo. You wont find them released here.
Hard Rock pioneers, Buffalo was fronted by Dave Tice and in back was then
bass player Peter Wells. Peter Wells went on to form Rose Tattoo,
Tice went to London to front the Count Bishops. Today, Tice is still singin
up a powerful brew of hard blues, rock and all points between. He's just
released his debut solo album, 'Lay Down with Dogs' with a bit
of help from bass players Mark Evans (ex-AC/DC) and Paul Burton (ex-Catfish/Headhunters),
guitarists Mal Eastick, Peter Wells, Steve Edmonds and more.
"For
me this album came together over three years. Some of those songs are
quite recent, but the majority of them stretch over quite a period of
time . They've been part of an ongoing thing I've been trying to do since
I've been back from England, which was 1984. This record is only one piece
of what I do. The problem I keep finding is 'I've gotta be blues' or 'I've
gotta be rock'. 'I've got to be somethingand I can't understand quite
frankly because I want to explore as much as I can. Luckily being involved
with Simon (Carey) and Fullmoon on this has given much more freedom than
I could have expected any where else.
"The
other thing is, a lot of people see an album as merely a collection of
songs , which basically of course it is, but for me, the album has to
have some sort of integrity. There's got to be a dynamic about it, and
that's what I tried to do with this. And all the people I've used on this
I respect a great deal. To me all these guys are top players, people I've
worked with over the years, who understand that sense of integrity.
"The
same goes for working live. Mark (Evans) and I for instance do an acoustic
thing. Sometimes it's just one acoustic guitar and my voice, sometimes
it's two acoustics, sometimes acoustic guitar and band, sometimes electric
band. Once again it comes down to dynamics and the colour of things.Actually,
it's only by concentrating on the acoustic thing that I've got myself
into the position where I've got the confidence to do that, live and on
record.
"We're
already getting orders for the album from Canada, Germany, and it's not
even on the website yet really. These days, with the net and all the international
connections that exist, and thankfully Fullmoon is involved with, if a
thing's any good people will pick up on it.

Well
there was a Buffalo reunion at the Bridge last week but the lineup
mixed several of the bands lineups. Still with me? Dave Tice and
Alan Milano who were on the bands first album, Dead Forever were
on vocals, Peter Wells was on bass, John Baxter on guitar
and Jimmy Economou on drums. Latter day guitarist Chris Turner
also got up at one point. A full scale reunion, album and world tour?
Who knows...............

50th
Stampede!
June
4, 2000
On
the 4th of June 2000 an exciting and historic event took place at the
Bridge Hotel Sydney. Buffalo road manager Grahame 'Yogi' Harrison and
partner Susan Ambler held their 50th birthday party, reuniting many talented
friends and musicians who were their guests.
Dave
Tice Band rocked as house band for the night leading up to a trip back
in time with the lineup from Buffalo's first 3 albums and final
album - Dave Tice, Peter Wells, John Baxter, Jimmy Economou, Chris Turner
and Alan Milano getting on stage for the first time in 25 years and jamming
on Gloria and Crossroads.
Attending
the party were personal friends which included members of Buffalo and
manager Sebastian Chase, Radiators, Mark Evans, Paul and Dee DeMarco,
Lucy DeSoto to name just a few. Great to see Buffalo's Home Page developer,
Michael Eagling who came along with John and Karen Baxter from Tasmania.
As
you can imagine, much reminiscing and catching up was done while everyone
partied hard! Thanks very much Yogi for organising a great night.
